Frequently Asked Questions

Many Americans do not have access to healthcare and cannot afford to pay the high cost of bariatric surgery. That is why they have decided to travel abroad and look for other options of treatments. El Salvador is a beautiful tropical country where bariatric surgery costs are closed to half of those in the US.

Obesity EL Salvador offers a complete package that includes roundtrip airfare, transportation to hotel and/or hospital, lodging, lab tests, surgery and hospital expenses. In order to give you an estimate, we need more information about your health and the type of bariatric procedure that will benefit the most.

The average cost of laparoscopic bariatric surgery in El Salvador goes from $5500 to $12,000.

The final weight loss after the procedure is affected for several factors, which includes:
Age
Weight before surgery
General condition
Surgical procedure
Ability to exercise
Commitment to follow dietary guidelines and attend follow-up visits
Patient motivation and support offered by family and/or friends

Surgery success is defined as weight loss of 50% or more of excess body weight and maintenance of the pursued goal for at least five years. Clinical results will vary for each of the different procedures performed at Obesity El Salvador.
Clinical studies show that most of the patients lose weight fast and continue to do so up to 18 to 24 months after surgery. Patients could lose 30 to 50% of the excess weight in the first months and 77% of excess weight by 12 months after the procedure.

Patients with higher Body Mass Index have a tendency to lose more total weight. On the other hand, patients with lower Body Mass Index will lose a greater percentage of their excess weight and have a higher chance to get closer to their ideal body weight. Patients with type 2 Diabetes usually have a tendency to lose less overall excess weight than patients without Diabetes type 2.
Surgery has been found to be effective in improving and controlling many obesity-related health conditions. In 2000, a study of 500 patients showed that 96% of certain health conditions associated with obesity (back pain, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, diabetes and depression) improved or resolved after surgery. For example, many patients with type 2 Diabetes have experienced improvement and/or resolution of the disease while showing less overall excess weight loss. These patients could take lower doses of medications or even suspend treatment
